Poppy Appeal figure announced at the Christams Lunch
The "Turkey and Tinsel" lunch on 30th November provide the backdrop for the announcement of the total monies raised during the period of Remembrance. Sylvia Nicholson proudly announced the total had reached just over £22,000 with more to come in from cheques and donations etc - a great result in this present economic climate.
Below are pictures of Legion members enjoying the day.
Remembrance Day celebrated in style at Legion HQ!!
After parading at the war memorial it was back to the York Hotel to warm up and relax for the rest of the day. Many members came along to enjoy a free sherry or port and to dine on the exellent food on offer from landlady Lynn Dennison. On parade were 14 members of HMS Trafalgar who were also staying at the York for the weekend. They joined in with locals in impromtu sing songs and of course got to know a few of the local girls!!
The navy lads have promised to return next year as sadly Trafalgar is being decommisioned (one of the oldest in the fleet), so it will be a poignent event.
All in all it proved to be a great day and hopefully we can increase the numbers attending next year as well as recruiting new members to the branch as we did this year.
